A matter of thank you

Offer thanks to the professionals in your life

Following a short tender writing and editing contract for one of my regular clients, it was so lovely to receive an honest thank you. It was simply a well written email and a request for my address to send me something small in appreciation for my hard work, but it has meant the world to me.

It made me consider why this small gesture made me feel so good.

In my experience, the tender process inevitably means constantly shifting milestones, pushing deadlines and a last minute dash to submit professional documents that make companies shine. It is hard, solitary work that requires strict concentration. It is my job; I expect nothing more, or less; I love it.

I have managed teams and know the positive impact that a well-timed thank you can make to morale. And I have often been on the other side where this small gesture can seem wildly out of reach.

In our hectic professional lives, are we losing the ability to stop and acknowledge the contributions of our peers in making our job just that tiny bit easier?

Let's bring back the thank yous.
